Carli Steelman
Peace Studies & Sociology
Carli Steelman (peace studies and sociology) graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2013 with a B.A. in political science. She received an M.A. in political science from the University of New Mexico in 2015. Her master’s thesis examined how individual levels of social capital impact economic development outcomes in post-conflict Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Her dissertation focuses on collective memory of violence. Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), she analyzes the spatial distribution of violence and collective memory in two cases: Northern Ireland and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Additional projects use GIS to map the spatial distribution of confederate memorials and model the conditions under which they are preserved or removed.
