Kroc’s Peace Accords Matrix Gains Regional Ambassador for Latin America

Author: Joan Fallon

International mediator Francisco Diez has begun working with the Kroc Institute as Regional Ambassador for the Peace Accords Matrix. He will represent the Peace Accords Matrix in Latin America, especially in the Colombian peace process.

Diez has extensive experience mediating conflicts throughout Latin America. He is the former Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina; a former adviser to Argentinian President Raúl Alfonsín; and a past Latin America representative of the Carter Center. He has led numerous conflict transformation workshops and has taught at the University of Buenos Aires, La Matanza University, Tres de Febrero University and Palermo University in Argentina.

The Peace Accords Matrix is a unique source of comparative qualitative and quantitative data on peace agreements. In recent years, PAM has been used to address issues in ongoing peace negotiations in Myanmar, Colombia, Nepal, and the Philippines, as well as for published academic research.

Diez will work closely with John Paul Lederach, professor of international peacebuilding and director of the Peace Accords Matrix, to develop a Latin America-wide strategy for integrating PAM research into policy and practice.
