Today is the 94th birthday of Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., president emeritus of the University of Notre Dame.
During his 35 years as president of the University of Notre Dame, Fr. Ted was a leading force in major social issues ranging from civil rights to nuclear non-proliferation to Third World development. Since his retirement, he has remained active in the Notre Dame institutes he founded, including the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, the Kellogg Institute for International Studies, and the Center for Civil and Human Rights.
Happy birthday, Fr. Ted!
