The Kroc Institute will offer its annual weeklong Summer Institute for college and university faculty from June 19-24, 2011.
Launched in 2009 in response to a growing interest in the field of peace studies, the Institute is designed for faculty who want to create a new program or strengthen and expand existing programs at their institution.
Faculty from various fields and institutions will:
- Engage in substantive discussions with leading thinkers regarding the contemporary parameters of peace studies as it relates to praxis, research, and teaching;
- Explore pedagogical, administrative, and public relations challenges of peace studies;
- Give teams of three faculty or staff members from the same campus the chance to collaborate on course development and programming while benefitting from ideas and expertise of others in the field.
The Institute is directed by George A. Lopez and staffed by about a dozen faculty and staff of the Kroc Institute. Lopez, a founding faculty member of the Kroc Institute, is an internationally recognized authority on peace studies program development. Over the past two years, some 100 faculty from nearly 40 colleges and universities have attended the Summer Institute.
