What have we learned in the decade since 9/11 that should inform a renewed vision for the United States as a force for peace and stability in the world?
Three leading thinkers will address this question in a panel sponsored by Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at 4 p.m., September 9 (Friday) in the Hesburgh Center for International Studies auditorium at Notre Dame. The event is free and open to the public.
The panel discussion “Strategies of Peace after ‘The War on Terror’” will feature:
- Andrew Bacevich, Professor of International Relations and History at Boston University
- Robin Wright, a Middle East journalist and foreign policy analyst
- Waleed El-Ansary, University Chair of Islamic Studies at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Panelists also will answer questions posed by Kroc Institute director Scott Appleby and members of the audience.
Andrew Bacevich is a career officer (retired) in the U.S. Army, a historian, and the author of, most recently, The Limits of Power: The End of American Exceptionalism. Robin Wright is the author of Dreams and Shadows: The Future of the Middle East and Rock the Casbah: Rage and Rebellion Across the Islamic World. Waleed El-Ansary is a scholar of comparative religion, Islam, and Islamic economics, and the author of The Spiritual Significance of Jihad in the Islamic Approach to Markets and the Environment.
