A special issue of Peace Science Digest, "The Future of Peace," was released on Sept. 21 in recognition of the United Nations International Day of Peace, with the Kroc Institute collaborating on the publication with the War Prevention Initiative of the Jubitz Family Foundation and the Alliance for Peacebuilding.
The issue considers how to adapt to shifting global dynamics and disruptions, including those caused by artificial intelligence, the climate crisis, and political fragmentation. Kroc Institute Director Asher Kaufman writes in the special issue's foreword: "Amid these dynamics, all of us who study and work for peace have an urgent responsibility—and opportunity—to ask ourselves tough questions and reconsider our strategies."
The issue features essays from Keough School faculty having a core affiliation with the Kroc Institute: Lisa Schirch, Richard (Drew) Marcantanio, and Josefina Echavarría Álvarez. Keough School Visiting Professor of the Practice Peter J. Quaranto co-edited the issue.

The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly. Two decades later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted to designate the Day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire.
