America is in deep trouble

George A. Lopez, the Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., Professor Emeritus of Peace Studies, wrote the op-ed "America is in deep trouble," for The Hill.

"The past week shows all too clearly that we are led by a president and a secretary of state who find their singular pronouncements preferable to crisis-sensitive, multiple agency competence and who consider the reinterpretation of past events and the norms of economic and military use of force as theirs to alter as they choose. The president’s speech did not step us away from the brink as much stumbled us down his usual uncertain road to nowhere. Seldom has there been a more critical time for Congress, the press, and the public to check such instincts and actions before they lead to continued military confrontations," he writes.
