American Peacebuilding at a Crossroads: Lessons, Risks and the Road Ahead

American peacebuilding is at a pivotal crossroads. Institutions and networks that have shaped U.S. efforts to prevent violent conflict over recent decades, including the U.S. Institute of Peace, now face deep uncertainty amid resource cuts and shifting policy priorities.

These changes are unfolding even as global conflicts grow in number, scale and complexity, and political violence risks rise at home, raising urgent questions about the future role of American peacebuilding in a rapidly changing world.

Join the University of Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs and its Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, in partnership with the Alliance for Peacebuilding and featuring former leaders of the U.S. Institute of Peace, for a full-day convening of leading scholars, civil society leaders, and national security officials to examine what is at stake for the future of American peacebuilding.
