40th Anniversary Symposium: Rising to Meet the Current Moment

As part of its 40th anniversary celebration during the 2026-2027 academic year, the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies will host a research symposium, “Rising to Meet the Current Moment,” March 18-20, 2027 on the University of Notre Dame campus. Highlighting the scholarship of faculty, staff, alumni and other prominent scholars and practitioners in the peace studies field, the gathering will address the ways peacebuilding can and should advance to meet current needs and challenges.

The symposium will center attention on five areas within peace studies: peacebuilding and democracy, peace education, strategic peacebuilding, policy and practice elements of peacebuilding, and innovative peace research. Sessions within each of these areas will be aligned with three symposium themes throughout the three-day program: Faith-based and Catholic Peacebuilding; Decoloniality and Intersectionality, and Democracy and Civil Resistance.
