Current Events Coffee Hour: Ensuring the Implementation of Peace Accords

-

Location: Hesburgh Center for International Studies

Nov Peace Studies Coffee Hour Event

Featuring Josefina Echavarría Alvarez, Director of the Peace Accords Matrix (PAM); Associate Professor of the Practice, and Monica McWilliams, Emeritus Professor at Ulster University and scholar-practitioner elected to the multi-party peace negotiations, representing the Northern Ireland Women’s Coalition and is a signatory to the 1998 Good Friday Agreement.

Several times a semester, a different member of the Kroc Institute community will facilitate an informal conversation about a timely topic relating to their work or research. Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to join us for these chats about the ongoing work of peace studies in the world.

Coffee, tea, and refreshments will be provided.

The conversation on November 11 will examine what peace negotiations and peace accords look like globally, as well as discuss the different ways implementation can occur as seen in the cases of the 2016 Colombian Peace Agreement and the 1998 Good Friday Agreement in Northern Ireland.

McWilliams' latest book, "Stand Up, Speak Out: Women’s Rights, Peace and Equality in Northern Ireland and Beyond," examines how achieving the Good Friday Peace Agreement was a process and not an event. Join the Kroc Institute on Thursday, November 10, for a book launch featuring McWilliams and her latest book. A book signing with McWilliams will occur after the event.
