Current Events Coffee Hour: Democratic Backsliding, Globalization, and the Local Turn

Several times a semester, a different member of the Kroc Institute community will facilitate an informal conversation about a timely topic relating to their work or research. Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to join us for these chats about the ongoing work of peace studies in the world.

Coffee, tea, and refreshments will be provided.

The October 7 conversation will focus on current trends that are seeing the erosion of democracy in locations around the world alongside the long-term trends toward globalization. In addition, Professor Hughes will tie these concepts together with a discussion of "the local turn," a phrase used in peace studies literature to emphasize the important role that local communities, organizations, and movements play in peacebuilding efforts.
