Crisis in Kashmir: Risks of Nuclear Escalation

On Wednesday, February 27, long-simmering tensions between India and Pakistan over the Kashmir region escalated with a new surge of violence with Indian air strikes across the border in response to a terrorist suicide bombing. While India and Pakistan's leaders do not agree on the details of the day's events, both countries have articulated a desire to avoid further escalation.

Join Notre Dame's International Security Center, the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, and the Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies for a panel conversation about the current situation in the Kashmir region and the risks it poses for potential nuclear escalation.

Panelists include Michael Desch, Director of the International Security Center, Eugene Gholz, Associate Professor of Political Science, Shivaji Mukherjee, Visiting Research Fellow at the Kroc Institute, and Mahan Mirza, Professor of the Practice of Contending Modernities at the Kroc Institute. 

Desch will chair the discussion.
