Becca Méndez helps track the implementation of the Colombian Peace Agreement as a Research Associate with the Peace Accords Matrix Barometer Project.

Méndez is a graduate of the Kroc Institute, earning her M.A. in International Peace Studies in 2017. As a student, she accompanied rural Colombian communities on sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation projects with an organization called SembrandoPaz.

During the height of the final peace negotiations in Colombia, she conducted ethnographic research about visions of peace in the Colombian countryside. In her M.A. capstone she wrote about the metaphors used by rural Colombians which emphasize peace as harmony with the environment.

Prior to attending the University of Notre Dame Méndez served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay. She has also worked on immigration advocacy in Oregon, where she received her B.A. in Sociology at Linfield College. She speaks Spanish and Guarani, the indigenous language of Paraguay.
