This emerging area of research focuses on social mobilization, organizing, and political activism. It analyzes the prospects for nonviolent social change arising from collective political movements and transnational movements such as the World Social Forum.
Kroc faculty such as Jackie Smith and David Cortright study the impact and dynamics of social movements for political and social change. Smith's most recent book is Social Movements for Global Democracy (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2007). Cortright's most recent book is Peace: A History of Movements & Ideas (Cambridge University Press, 2008).
