PLEASE NOTE - Beginning
in Fall 2004, the Kroc Institute will expand its M.A. program
to a two-year curriculum. Information about the new program
will be posted on this website in August. If you have requested
application materials for the M.A. program from the Office
of Graduate Admissions, these will be mailed in August.
Application Deadline for the Kroc Institute
is January 5th.
Note: To receive our application materials by mail,
you can send your request via email to GradAd.1@nd.edu
.(Be sure to mention that you need a Kroc Institute application
for an M.A. in Peace Studies. Also be sure to include your
mailing address.)
1.) University of Notre Dame's Graduate School Application
The University's application form can be completed on-line
at the following web site: http://www.nd.edu/~gradsch/applying/appintro.shtml
(Note: The on-line application form replaces both the University's
Standard Application on the 2-part folder and the University's
Statistical Information form.)
Submitting the University's form on-line
does not constitute a completed application!
The additional items listed below must also be mailed!
The forms highlighted below can be printed
(with the help of the Adobe
Acrobat Reader),
and then completed forms must be mailed to:
University of Notre Dame
Graduate Admissions
502 Main Bldg.
Notre Dame, IN 46556
USA
IMPORTANT: Please write "Peace Studies"
on the outside of all envelopes mailed to us.
If it is close to our application deadline of January 5th,
the Kroc Application Forms can be faxed to us at:
574-631-6973, but please ask for permission before faxing.
2.) Also required: Kroc
Institute 2003-2004 Application (4 pages).
On page 1 of the application please include some way in which
you can be reached quickly if necessary. An email address
is best. And perhaps a university, business or post office
can provide a fax number at which you could receive messages.
Phone numbers where a message can be left also help. For "present
address" please use a reliable mailing address even if
it is not where you are currently living.
3.) 2003-2004 Cover Sheet (1
page) to be completed by the applicant.
4.) 2003-2004 Statement of Intent to
be completed by the applicant, typing preferred. The applicant
can use a separate sheet, if desired.
5.) Three (2003-2004) Recommendations
to be written by persons (including at least one professor)
who can describe in detail the applicant's qualifications
for the program. The recommender can use his own letterhead,
if desired.
IMPORTANT: If your recommendation letters are being
sent separately from your other application materials, the
words "Peace Studies" must written on the outside of
the envelope!
6.) Two (2) Official Transcripts from each
undergraduate and graduate institution attended, showing courses
taken and grades received. Include English translation
(2 original or certified copies). If undergraduate transcript
does not show proof of degree and date earned, two official
copies of the diploma showing award of B.A. or equivalent
are also required. An official transcript bears the original
signature of the registrar and/or the original seal of the
issuing institution. Photocopies or documents marked "issued
to student" are unofficial. Official transcripts in a
signed and sealed envelope may be enclosed with the application
or, if required by the institution, mailed directly to the
Notre Dame Graduate Admissions Office. Certified copies are
also acceptable. Please note that none of these documents
can be returned; do not send irreplaceable originals.
IMPORTANT: If your transcripts are being sent separately
from your other application materials, the words "Peace
Studies" must
be written on the outside of the envelope!
7.) Both a 2003-2004 Letter
of Verification of English Proficiency and a TOEFL score
are required for non-native speakers of English. The Letter
of Verification
of English Proficiency is to be written by a person (preferably
a native speaker of English) who can describe in detail
the
applicant's experience with the language and ability to do
graduate work in English. An exception can be made to
the
TOEFL requirement, if you have studied for at least a year
at a university or college where ~all~ of the subjects
were
taught in English.
8.) Scores from the Graduate Record Exam (GRE),
unless the applicant lives in a country in which it is impossible
or extremely difficult to take the exam. The GRE is a standardized
exam offered by the Educational Testing Service at locations
around the world; it is used for admission to U.S. graduate
schools. The Kroc Institute requires the GRE general test
only. The GRE university code for the University of Notre
Dame is 1841. A department code is not necessary. While applications
may be considered before GRE scores have arrived, the lack
of a GRE score for U.S. students will make the application
less competitive. Any students who have not taken the GRE
before arrival will be required to do so during the first
semester of enrollment.
9.) Application Fee of $50. A reduced fee of
$35 is offered for those applications received by December
1. Make check payable to University of Notre Dame. International
applicants may pay using an International Postal Money Order
or a bank draft on U.S. bank.
SUBMISSION:
Kroc Institute applications must be received by January 5.
Applicants can expect to be notified of decisions by April
1.
Make a complete copy of your application and supporting
documents for yourself before mailing, in case the originals
are lost in the mail (as has happened in the past).
IMPORTANT: Please make sure that the words "Peace
Studies" are written on the outside of all envelopes mailed
to us! Failure to do so will result in a delay in processing
your materials.
Note: If your mailing date is close to January 5th,
we suggest submission of Kroc materials by fax, but please
ask for permission before faxing. And remember, the originals
must still be mailed.
