The Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies invites teams of college and university faculty from any field to apply to its 2nd Annual Summer Institute for Faculty in Peace Studies Program Development. This intensive (and fun) ‘summer camp,’ held June 13-18, 2010, will bring together small teams of academics who want to:
- launch a peace studies program at their institution;
- strengthen a small or new peace studies program; or
- take an established peace studies program to the next level of design and rigor.
Participants will engage intellectually with leading thinkers on the contemporary parameters of peace studies as it relates to praxis, research, and teaching. They also will explore the pedagogical, administrative, and communications challenges of peace studies. Teams of faculty will collaborate on course development while benefitting from the ideas and expertise of others in the field.
The Institute begins in the late afternoon on Sunday, June 13, and ends at noon on Friday, June 18. Mornings will focus on critical themes in the field and program development. Afternoons will allow participants to work with their team on courses or curricular plans.
Professor George A. Lopez, an internationally recognized authority on peace studies program development, leads the program, and Kroc faculty and staff present and serve as consultants to teams.
The cost of the week’s program is $150 per faculty participant (each team should include at least 3 faculty members), plus transportation to Notre Dame and lodging (in dorms or other low-cost alternatives). The Kroc Institute covers breakfast, dinner, snacks, and all program materials.
The application deadline has now passed. Accepted applicants will be notified by March 15.
