Olivia Lee, an American studies and peace studies major, is the winner of the 2013 Yarrow Award in Peace Studies.
Notre Dame senior Olivia Lee has been selected to receive the Kroc Institute’s 2013 Yarrow Award. The Yarrow Award is given annually to a peace studies student who demonstrates academic excellence and commitment to service in peace and justice.
Lee, an American studies and peace studies major, will accept the award at the undergraduate recognition ceremony on May 17.
As a Notre Dame junior, Lee received research grants from the Center for Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement and Kellogg Institute for International Studies. She presented a paper, “Wollstonecraft, Kant, and China’s One-Child Policy: The Right to Education vs. The Right to Life,” at Grinnell College’s Student Peace Conference and interned for the Gandhi Human Welfare Society at the Foundation for Sustainable Development in Udaipur, India.
Lee volunteered with Indiana Legal Services and the YWCA’s Court Watch Program, where she monitored court cases of domestic violence. She also is a varsity athlete on Notre Dame’s Cheerleading Squad.
After graduating from Notre Dame, Lee will work as a business analyst for McKinsey & Company, a global consulting firm. She later plans to pursue graduate studies.
“Peace studies has opened many doors for me intellectually, personally and professionally,” Lee said. “Becoming a major was one of the best decisions I ever made.”
