I Did It to Save My Life, by Catherine Bolten, tells stories of survival during Sierra Leone's civil war. The book illuminates the way in which residents of Makeni cared for each other in a context of love, compassion, and material exchange.

Three students in Notre Dame’s Ph.D. Program in Peace Studies — Alex Dukalskis (political science and peace studies), Laura Taylor (psychology and peace studies), and Ryne Close (history and peace studies) — recently published new research in academic journals.
Sixteen students from 10 countries recently arrived at the Kroc Institute to pursue master’s degrees in international peace studies. The class of 2014 brings academic interests and professional experiences related to peace, conflict resolution, gender-based violence, development, language and the arts, law, and human rights.
