Keir A. Lieber (BA, U of Wisconsin-Madison; MA, University of Chicago; PhD, University of Chicago) Assistant Professor of Political Science. Lieber's current research focuses on the international politics of contemporary American grand strategy and U.S. nuclear weapons policy. His recent articles have appeared in International Security and Foreign Affairs, and he is the author of the book War and the Engineers: The Primacy of Politics over Technology (Cornell University Press, 2005), which explores the relationship between technological change and the causes of war. He has held fellowships from the Brookings Institution, Earhart Foundation, Institute for the Study of World Politics, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Andrew Mellon Foundation, and Smith Richardson Foundation. Lieber previously worked at the Henry L. Stimson Center, where his research focused on regional confidence-building measures and the control of chemical and nuclear arms proliferation. At Notre Dame, Lieber is also a faculty fellow at the Nanovic Institute for European Studies.
