Alan Dowty (Ph.D. Chicago, 1963) specializes in international relations and the international politics of the Middle East. In 2003, he was appointed as Kahanoff Chair Professor of Israel Studies at the University of Calgary, and now divides his time among South Bend, Calgary, and Jerusalem. His writings include: The Limits of American Isolation (New York), Middle East Crisis: U.S. Decision Making in 1958, 1970, and 1973 (California), and The Jewish State: A Century Later (California). The Twentieth Century Fund sponsored his research on the right of emigration, published in Closed Borders (Yale). His recent work focuses on the Arab-Israel conflict, Israeli politics, and issues of international enforcement. He has been a fellow of the Kroc Institute since 1988.
