Two Catholic bishops from Pakistan, as well as archbishops
from Myanmar and Senegal, will be among participants at the
2005 Summer Institute on Peacebuilding. The Kroc Institute
for International Peace Studies is teaming up with Catholic
Relief Services for the fifth annual event, to be held May
22-27 at Notre Dame's Hesburgh Center for International Studies.
CRS is one of the world’s largest and most respected
development agencies. In recent years, it has also become
a leader in developing programs to build peace in the many
areas of conflict in which it operates. Its work overlaps
with the interests of the Kroc Institute, which conducts
research, education, and outreach programs on the causes
of violence and the conditions for sustainable peace.
The
summer institute will convene three dozen church leaders,
CRS senior staff and CRS partners from
20 countries for an intensive week of training, discussion
and
strategizing.
The sessions
are geared toward strengthening their capacity to resolve
conflict and promote reconciliation from the Congo and
Kosovo to Eritrea and El Salvador.
