Another World Is Possible: Another U.S. Is Necessary
Report on the U.S. Social Forum

Tuesday, September 25
4:15 p.m.
Hesburgh Center for International Studies Auditorium

This summer, a team of Notre Dame students and faculty traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to attend the first United States Social Forum.  Nearly 15,000 activists gathered in the city that was once home to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and an incubator of the civil rights movement to help build a new movement for social justice in this country.  The Notre Dame contingent gathered with immigrant rights activists, victims of hurricane Katrina, housing rights advocates, anti-violence activists, and other social justice leaders over a five-day period to search for new ways to work together and make another world possible.  The Notre Dame team members will report on their experiences and discuss the implications of the Forum for peacebuilding and social change.

Following the panel, we will celebrate the release of a new book, Global Democracy and the World Social Forums, co-authored by Kroc Institute faculty member, Jackie Smith.  Refreshments will be served.
