Kroc Institute
faculty and students played a leading role in the CBS News
special program “Voices of Peace: People of Faith Speak Out
about Religious Violence.” It was aired in selected cities
nationally in late December and early January.
“Voices of
Peace” featured interviews with people dedicated to inter-religious
cooperation and involvement in problem-solving and reconciliation.
Producer Ted Holmes and researcher Lisa Hamilton of the
CBS News Religion Unit visited the University of Notre Dame
in
early November. They interviewed Scott Appleby, Kroc Institute
director; Cynthia Mahmood, director of graduate studies;
and Rashied Omar, coordinator of the Program in Religion,
Conflict and Peacebuilding. They spoke with Kroc students
Isaac Lappia of Sierra Leone, Elizabeth Serafin of Mexico,
and Jonathan Smith of the United States, as well as Kroc
alumnus Chaim Neria (’03) of Israel.
