Research Professor – Peace Accords Matrix

The Kroc Institute seeks applications for a research professor to work with its Peace Accords Matrix (PAM) initiative. PAM seeks to be a preeminent source of comparative data on peace accords and their subsequent implementation. This dataset will be regularly updated and made available to scholars, policymakers, journalists, and peacebuilding practitioners on the Web. In addition, PAM plans to provide advice and consultation to current peace negotiations based on comparative analyses of peace processes in other locations.

Working closely with Prof. John Darby, the Director of PAM and a leading scholar of comparative peace processes, the research professor will oversee all aspects of data collection for PAM, including the coding of data by research assistants and review by scholars and regional experts. The research professor will conduct individual research and contribute to joint initiatives that advance the understanding of peace processes and the implementation of peace accords. Current collaborative endeavors include a joint initiative with Peter Wallensteen, Erik Melander, and the Uppsala Conflict Data Program, exploring the role of third parties in peace processes.

In addition, the research professor will collaborate with Prof. Darby, Prof. John Paul Lederach, and other faculty at the Kroc Institute to bring data from PAM to bear on current peace processes and negotiations around the world. This is a research faculty position (non-tenured) at the Kroc Institute.

Applicants must have:

  • a Ph.D. in sociology, political science, peace studies, or another relevant discipline
  • expertise in peace processes and peace accords
  • experience working with datasets.

The position offers excellent opportunities to collaborate with leading scholars in the field and to contribute to ongoing peace processes.
